Fire'z Off Flame Retardant - The Class 'A' Retardant You Simply
Spray on and let dry!
Has the Fire Marshal said you need to have something treated with
flame retardant?
Fire'z Off is an environmentally-friendly fire retardant spray
and dip, which is used to retard fire in all Class A materials,
such as drapes, wall hangings, furniture, boxes and packing materials,
fabrics and uniforms, even construction materials like framing and
roof decking. It's perfect for schools, daycares, eldercare, restaurants,
hospitals and more.
Fire'z
Off is very easy to apply. Just spray it on and let dry. You can
use a quart sprayer, garden sprayer, backpack sprayer, even commercial
spraying/painting equipment. You can also dip fabrics, wring them
out and let air dry. You must get the material wet for maximum effectiveness,
but the product is non-staining. Just keep a record of when you
treated the material, along with the MSDS
and Fire'z Off Product Sheet,
and you should be in good standing with the fire marshals.
Unlike many products on the market today, it is specially formulated
to be non-toxic, with noPBDE's, neurotoxins
or VOC's that can cause long-term damage to humans or the environment.
Tested according to ASTM E84 standards by SGS US Testing, Fire'z
Off is rated Class 'A' for flame spread and smoke developement,
and meets most requirements for fire marshals and Life Code 101
regs for hanging fabrics, drapes, etc.

Since Fire'z Off falls into accordance with
the rating classification shown above, it is considered
an acceptable fire retardant product in accordance with
NFPA 255, with a Class A rating.
Fire'z Off forms a thermal insulation barrier that prevents dangerous
flames form spreading. Fire'z Off also inhibits the development
of toxic hydrocarbon smoke. And it is safe enough that it can be
applied while people are present. It will remain effective until
it is washed out. It can even be mixed with latex paint to prevent
flame spread.
The Problem with Other Retardants...
Polybrominated diphenyl ethers, or PBDE's, are commonly used as
fire retardants as well as in manufacturing of building materials,
electronics, furnishings, plastics and textiles. But since the 1990's,
scientists have questioned the safety of PBDE's because they accumulate
in the body, and are not passed through as waste. People are exposed
to low-levels of PBDE's through ingestion of food and by inhalation.
PBDEs bioaccumulate in blood, breast milk, and fat tissues. People
are also exposed to these chemicals in their domestic environment
because of their prevalence in common household items.
In the United States, children's blood concentrations average 62
parts per billion (ppb) and range from 24 to 114 ppb. Published
studies express concern because exposure to PBDE's impairs development
of nervous system. PDBE's has also been shown to have hormone disrupting
effects, particularly on estrogen and thyroid hormones. The U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) noted that PBDE's are particularly
toxic to the developing brains of animals. Peer-reviewed studies
have shown that even a single dose administered to mice during development
of the brain can cause permanent changes to behavior, including
hyperactivity.
As of June 1, 2006 the State of California began
prohibiting the manufacture, distribution, and processing of flame
retardant products containing pentabrominated diphenyl ether (pentaBDE)
and octabrominated diphenyl (octaBDE). According to the EPA exposure
may pose health risks. According to U.S. EPA's Integrated Risk Information
System evidence indicates PBDE's may possess liver toxicity, thyroid
toxicity, and neurodevelopmental toxicity. In April 2007, the legislature
of the state of Washington passed a bill banning the use of PBDE's.
The State of Maine Department of Environmental Protection found
that all PBDE's should be banned. In August, 2003, the State of
California outlawed the sale of penta- and octa- PBDE and products
containing them, effective January 1, 2008. In May 2007, the legislature
of the state of Maine passed a bill phasing out the use of DecaBDE.
The European Union decided to ban the use of two classes of flame
retardants, namely polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE's) and polybrominated
biphenyls (PBBs) in electric and electronic devices. This ban was
formalized in the RoHS Directive, and an upper limit of 1 g/kg for
the sum of PBBs and PBDEs was set.
Fire'z Off is the Solution
Fire'z Off contains NO PBDE's, is completely non-toxic, creates
no harmful vapors, and best of all, it works!
